Caught In the Doldrums

I don't think this is the only area where we seem to be lacking a focus (shipbuilding for example). In fairness though, it probably did take a lot of effort for Task Force Uniform to come up with that blueberry patch camouflage.

The US Navy: lost in space?

The cost and engineering problems the Air Force is having with their space programs and in trying to train a solid cadre of qualified and effective space personnel are all too familiar. Now it seems that, on a smaller scale, the Navy is stuck with a similar dilemma. This problem could become more serious in the future since, unlike the Air Force, the senior Navy leadership may not even be aware that there is anything wrong.

I hate to say it but I think we could take a page from the Air Force on this one developing some more specific career types rather than trying to to throw just anyone into the job. Admittedly we are going in that direction to some extent. Furthermore, I would love us to have the ability to make EVERYONE (probably not the docs)have to do a SWO tour before moving onto their specialty (aviation included). In that way we are all Sailors first and specialist second; but specialists who are then free to pursue their specialty.

From the hip point of view.
