A Few Things To Say On The Way Out

General Myers is opening up a bit as his CJCS tenure comes to an end. I believe he is right about the public not understanding the stakes of what is going on (Exhibit "A" would be the ridiculous rants coming from "Old Ma Sheehan".) The cause in my opinion is that we are a victim of our own success as the typical American doesn't personally see or feel the war back here at home. They still watch their favorite programs on TV and munch down on their Extra Value Meals from McDonalds just like they did before 9/11. I don't have the total answer on how to change that but a good start, as General Myers suggests, would be greater involvement and advocacy by our civilian leadership. President Bush has done his part. Likewise, it would be nice to see ALL of Congress do their's. Instead we are presented by the left on Capitol Hill with silly notions such as "I support our troops, but not the war." I suppose I can return the favor though. I "support" each and every Democrat in Congress, but not them getting reelected.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The top U.S. military officer faulted U.S. political leaders on Friday for failing to get across what he portrayed as the huge stakes in Iraq and elsewhere in the U.S.-declared global war on terrorism.

"The most important thing we have ... right now in this kind of conflict is our will and our resolve," Gen. Richard Myers, outgoing chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said at the Pentagon, adding the U.S. public does not get the stakes.
