HABEMUS PAPAM

Look for the secularist attacks to begin. I myself am pleased that we have a Pope who will stand firm on issues of morality and liturgy. Viva il Papa!

CARDINAL JOSEPH RATZINGER, POPE BENEDICT XVI

Dear brothers and sisters, after our great pope, John Paul II, the cardinals have elected me, a simple, humble worker in God's vineyard. I am consoled by the fact that the Lord knows how to work and how to act, even with insufficient tools, and I especially trust in your prayers. In the joy of the resurrected Lord, trustful of his permanent help, we go ahead, sure that God will help. And Mary, his most beloved mother, stands on our side."

I think simply that no other mind within the Church is as formidable as Pope Benedict's; thus his selection in a time of many different and tough issues that the Church needs to be very clear (homosexuality, cloning, stem cell research, over-indulgence of self, etc) in refuting. That being said, the Holy Spirit is always there to guide whomever the Lord has chosen to server has the Vicar of Christ.

But if there is a need for another Crusade, I did just become a Knight of Columbus. :)
